Major investments in Saint-Michel and Parc-Extension!
In an effort to improve Montreal's community infrastructure, the federal government announced earlier this summer a significant investment of over $33 million in the Parc-Extension and Saint-Michel neighborhoods via the Green and Inclusive Community Buildings Program (GICB) program. This financing, detailed in the following press releaseis for the construction and renovation of three community centers, two of which will receive complementary support from the CIP.
The aim is to modernize spaces that are essential to the well-being and development of local communities. The projects will benefit a variety of groups, including families, the elderly and young people, by providing modernized facilities for educational, cultural and recreational activities.
In Parc-Extension, the funding will support the development of the New Community Centerthe initiative prioritized by local stakeholders for phase 2 of the CIP. It's a major cross-cutting project that responds to a community need. This multi-generational carbon-neutral center will be a place for meeting, exchanging, learning and leisure, integrating community resources to strengthen the neighborhood's social fabric.
In Saint-Michel, the Community House is a social economy real estate project coordinated by Vivre Saint-Michel en Santé, which aims to bring together under one roof at least seven community organizations in the Saint-Michel district, a day-care center, a collective kitchen and a multi-purpose hall. This project was one of the initiatives put in place by the district during phase 1 of the CIP.
A great success in these two neighborhoods!
