New partnership for affordable housing in Verdun
About this project
A new partnership has just been created between Le Comité d’action des citoyennes et citoyens de Verdun (CACV) and the Société locative d’investissement et de développement social (SOLIDES). This community real estate group has just purchased its first eight-unit building in Verdun, on Woodland Street, with more buildings to come!
This partnership with SOLIDES is part of the CACV’s strategic plan to create more social housing units so that underprivileged people can access adequate and affordable housing and stay in the area. While the neighbourhood mulled over the idea of creating a new community real estate entity, in the end, a partnership with a company with over 20 years of experience proved to be the best option.
SOLIDES is a non-profit organization that acquires and renovates (or constructs) buildings to provide adequate housing to people with low to moderate incomes. SOLIDES owns 540 housing units in Châteauguay, Longueuil and now in Verdun.
Supported by the CIP, this collective initiative was made possible thanks to the volunteer involvement of an advisory committee of representatives of the CACV, SOLIDES, Concertation en développement social de Verdun (CDSV), residents, Pause Parents-Enfants de Verdun, and District Atwater.
