ÉvalPIC: Staying focused on the desired change

A strategic learning opportunity for neighbourhoods

ÉvalPIC aims to build evaluative capacity through its collective activities. The proposed training approach is modular, ethical and creative and articulated around three areas of focus:

1. An evaluation process conducted by and for neighbourhoods. Neighbourhoods can evaluate both the implementation and impacts of their change projects.

2. Triangulation analysis of data collection methods and sources.

3. Collective intelligence and co-construction.

Collective impact training: an approach that prompts us to ask questions to stay focused on the target impact.

WHY?
To explore collective impact conditions in a practical way. Systematized by John Kania and Mark Kramer from the consulting firm FSG, this approach aims to facilitate and support sustainable social change. It also provides ideas for engaging commitment, collectively planning and evaluating change, focusing on high-impact actions, and creating a support structure that is tailored to the desired change. These conditions reflect the challenges that we regularly face on the path to collective change.

HOW?
> Three to four people per neighbourhood are invited to take the training.
> The exercises are rooted in practice and can be based on a real project regardless of its stage of completion.
> This training is open to all Montreal neighbourhoods.

WHEN?
September 28, 2022 / February 15, 2023
9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The training will be held in-person if permitted by the health measures in force on these dates. The location will be confirmed in the reminder email for the activity.

Evaluating change in a collective context: exploring the foundations of a participatory and evolutionary evaluation approach.

WHY?
To explore the foundations of evaluation in a practical way. The specific goal is to determine how participatory and evolutionary evaluation helps stakeholders better define and carry out the desired change. The proposed exercises will let you experiment with mapping the project and developing an evaluation framework. This training on evaluation in a collective context is an excellent continuation of the training on collective impact, as it allows you to go deeper into the strategic learning condition.

HOW?
> Three to four people per neighbourhood are invited to take the training.
> The exercises are rooted in practice and based on a real project regardless of its stage of completion.
> This training is open to all Montreal neighbourhoods.

WHEN?
November 23, 2022 / March 15, 2023
9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The training will be held in-person if permitted by the health measures in force on these dates. The location will be confirmed in the reminder email for the activity.

Collective evaluation workshops.

WHY?
> To deepen knowledge and reinforce the evaluative capacities of key stakeholders in the process to evaluate the change project. The group evaluation workshops are therefore opportunities for practical work.
> The proposed exercises lead to a more in-depth analysis of the implementation, analysis and dissemination of results. Particular attention will be paid to evaluating effects in order to demystify and encourage this practice as part of projects.

HOW?
> Three to four people involved in the project are invited to participate in the collective workshop; ideally, these stakeholders will be on the evaluation committee for the change project.
> The exercises are rooted in practice and based on a real project regardless of its stage of completion.
> This training is open to all Montreal neighbourhoods.

WHEN?
October 19, 2022 / December 7, 2022 / February 22, 2023 / April 5, 2023
1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The training will be held in-person if permitted by the health measures in force on these dates. The location will be confirmed in the reminder email for the activity.

Workshops on collective decision-making.

WHY?
> Because decision-making is a necessary part at various points of collective work to plan, implement and scale up a change project.
> This workshop aims to deepen the knowledge and strengthen the skills of key stakeholders in group decision-making processes. It specifically explores decision-making methods and tools and the required approach of the people facilitating this type of collective exercise.

HOW?
> Three to four people involved in the collective body that is overseeing the change project, including anyone from the neighbourhood roundtable and the change project teams, are invited to attend the workshop.
> The exercises are rooted in practice and based on a real project regardless of its stage of completion.
> This training is open to all Montreal neighbourhoods.

WHEN?
November 30, 2022 / May 3, 2023
1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The training will be held in-person if permitted by the health measures in force on these dates. The location will be confirmed in the reminder email for the activity.
