About Ahunstic

Where a great neighbourhood comes from social diversity

Despite its appearance of ease, Ahuntsic, which stretches along Rivière des Prairies, is home to hidden pockets of poverty where the majority of the territory’s 16,000 low-income people live. A network of well-established community agencies targets its action in these more disadvantaged sectors. Ahuntsic is home to a significant number of people who live alone and who are therefore more at risk of social isolation. Cultural diversity has increased particularly in recent years, and a diverse social fabric is a major issue for the neighbourhood, which is focusing on citizen participation to reinforce good neighbourly relations.
